My short term goal = To be able to create nice looking websites & wordpress themes with xhtml, css, and php.
Long term goal = To learn web programming languages so I can build things like facebook apps, iphone apps, adobe air apps etc.
I’ve watched some video lectures and I’m also reading an HTML, CSS book (which is confusing). For those of you who learned on your own, how did you go about doing it? Whats the best way to practice?
and how long do you think it will take me to reach an intermediate level? I have 4 – 6 hours a day to learn right now.
Thanks!
What would you recommend I use as my base; WordPress blog, Joomla or CSS/HTML? I have amateur design experience with all three of these.
Hi! I have a great website design in .psd. It was originally made for wordpress, but the original maker didn’t code it. I have some experience in html/php coding, but I’ve never coded wordpress themes. Is there a way I could code the design to a wordpress theme?

I am interested in started a blog, and after conducting some research, I’ve decided that WordPress would suite my needs quite nicely in terms of platform and support. However, I am a very artistic person and I am not comfortable using a standard blogging template. I have a very limited knowledge of html/css/java/etc., but I know my way around programs like Photoshop and iWeb incredibly well. Is there any way for me to create a design template using one of those programs and then have it “translated” into an actual theme?

OR If I designed the exact layout in iWeb to my specifications, how much would it cost to hire somebody to “translate” it into code for me?
i want to design a web site as blog and want to do it wordpress based..
where can i find tutorials about it?
I would like to design a nice blog on WordPress. I understand that I will need to upgrade to their premium version to get more features and options. That’s ok with me. What web techniques (things like CSS, HTML, etc..) should I need to design a nice blog? I have been working with HTML in Dreamweaver in designing a few websites but that was a “long” time ago! I haven’t kept paced with new things like XML, CSS, etc.. Do I need to learn those things? Also, do I still design the whole thing (say, using Dreamweaver) on my local machine and then upload it on WordPress website? Or are blogs working a different way?
Let’s say for example that I want my blog to “look” like this: http://allthingsd.com
Hi everybody! I’m a “web designer” who doesn’t do it for a living or anything, but really enjoys building websites with Dreamweaver, WordPress, Expression Engine, Joomla, etc…
Anyway, I’m so stuck in “table-based design” and it’s obvious that the standard these days is “tableless design” with valid xhtml & css…
Sooo… I’m thinking about buying a book on the subject and hoping that all you experts out there can recommend a good one for me ’cause I can’t afford to spend a lotta $ on a bunch of books.
What would be a good book for a person with an average knowledge of html to take it to the next level????
Thanks!
Wow! Thanks for all the quick response!! I guess I should add the request for websites on the topic… Duh! How old school of me to ask for books!

I want a custom theme where I can modify fonts, add a logo and pictures, and change colors. I also want to be able to upload .pdf and Word attachments but have no need of a blog feature. I am willing to pay for the custom template, but want to do the modifications myself. I tried Weebly and WordPress, but, unless I’m missing something, they do not allow custom fonts.
Hello,
I using WordPress for my blog. In the Header i lay the Category Menu.
I want when click in a category, In a right Bar will display a list link of all post in that category. A link has a icon which i choose when i write that post.
Please tell me how to do it? Tell me a plugin for that or Code of the bar which i need add to my site?( and how editing themes for that, editing PHP file and Css?).
I really need your help.
Dear, good luck to you and forget me not.
I’m trying to add a few sentences at the top, not as a post, but as heading that would stay there, and not get shifted down like posts do.
I’m using a wordpress template (twenty-ten), and I want to add a permanent paragraph, but can’t figure out how. Do some templates allow this and others don’t? If I were to keep the template, is the only way to change it through editing the CSS? And getting that $15/year program to do so?
If its standard to do this, how do I get there through the wordpress menu? The header just refers to the picture, not type.
Thanks!

I am somewhat disgusted with my 360 blog. I have spent countless hours trying to design it. Yahoo, seems not to give much freedom when it comes to content. I want updating content. most is in javascript.Java is one of the no no ‘s. I would also like to have the videos in a thumbnail view opening in another window. I am at the point of trying to move everything to another space. Will someone please look at my site over and tell me if they have any ideas of what I can do to get it back on track.
just should I start over somewhere else for more control.
How can I save my current work if I go somewhere else?
Where can I build my blog where I have more control?
