In this week’s episode of Quicktips Justin shows you how to quickly and easily disable the WordPress Admin Bar in your user profile settings.

I started a blog about 10 days ago and my site address is http://www.asianwesternromance.com/ Now I want to add a Chinese version for it without having a new site (like http://www.asianwesternromance.cn) It should be something like http://china.asianwesternromance.com/

Is it possible to do it and how can I make it work? Which level (public_html, wp-content, themes etc) I should add the Chinese folder in. Do I need to have another wordpress theme folder in that level too?

Thank you for your help!
Thank you for your answer JK. But how to set up a a subdomain under china.asianwesternromance.cn Is that mean I still have to get a new domain name?

Sorry, I am not a web designer.
Thanks, everyone. I got it work now :-)

Hi all,

I’m thinking of trying my hand at web design as I’m ok with html/css etc but I was wondering how web designers get their clients to edit their own pages. I tried installing WordPress (so they can use the UI there) on a local server (Xampp) but I find the service a little too blog-orientated. Anyone know of simple/free visual HTML Editors/FTP which aren’t too daunting for the non-technical minded.

Thanks.

I told my boss I would design him a web page because I wanted to learn web design and he wanted a web page. I work 4 hrs a day in exchange for a place to stay, but this work is generally gardening outside. Somehow there was a miscommunication – he can’t pay me for extra hours I spend on the web page and he needs me to work outside most of the time. Leaving me about 1 hr a day to work on his website.

I am kind of a newbie at the whole web design game – I am learning as I go. But I have a working knowledge of basic programing & coding and, in my opinion, a good eye for web design. So it might take me a while to read through the tutorials on html or css, but what I produce is high quality.

So at first, I said I wanted to do the design thinking it would count as my work hours. I put in 6 or so hours a day to compensate for my inexperience. But then he tells me I have to work mostly outside and since he saw how hard a time I was having maybe I could count 1 hr of work on the site per day. I spend like 5.

So anyways, I show him my first design that was heavily based on a template thinking we could be done with it. But then he rips me a new one, “ah the navigation should be over here” “oh this color is ugly” “your website caused my computer to completely crash” (I don’t believe that one.)

So taking all this criticism back to my workstation, I scrapped everything and started from scratch (when I still thought this counted as work! ha, just kidding!). I spent about 7-10 hours on the new design (once again, a lot of this is learning time too!). I show it to him, and he pretty much tells me to go back to the other one that he had had so many problems with.

So now I am ready to just quit! Or give him the one I have right now. Gah, why should I have to make it your way if I am doing it for free?

Now that the full situation is explained I want some input from people who design small business web pages like this (it’s about 7-8 pages – whenever he makes up his damn mind) and I’m going to integrate a WordPress blog into the design when I finalize it.

So if you were given this project and had to redo it several times because you have “bad” taste, how much would you charge your client?

I just want an accurate answer so I can know weather it’s worth it to ask for money, or quit doing it, or what?! Opinions welcome too, please and thank you :)

Hi. For my senior year of high school, I have to do a year long project. It can either be a paper or a paper and a product. I’d prefer to make a paper and a product such as software or a website script. I am fluent in HTML, CSS, and have some experience with Javascript and PHP. I am trying to find a way to learn how to program for this project. Do you have any ideas for programs or scripts that I could create in about a year’s time? My project needs to be pretty complicated and dense, but I need something that is doable.

So you will know what kind of ideas have appealed to me so far, here is a list:

learning PHP and creating a script like wordpress and also writing about the blog revolution
open source software – how it is changing everything
creating a social network, but i decided that this would be too difficult of a task for someone with so little programming experience

i could create some sort of software, so if you have ideas for software that could be created and the languages that would be useful to learn, i would appreciate it.

Thank you.
Oh btw, I have a lot of experience building web pages and creating graphics, so if the project could embrace those skills then that would be awesome.

I am seeking to create my own highly customized blog. I sketched what I wanted it to look like on Paint and now I don’t know where to begin. How do I make the web template I sketched on paint real?

I did a little research and I see that WordPress.com gives full customization control to premium users. But what programs can I use to create the html for the templates I design?

Hi I have already designed my website for the most part using css and html but recently Ive decided to use wordpress as my blog. I want wordpress to be my default page. The layout Ive made is a three bar layout with something at the top and bottom. How do I go about in changing the design Ive already made into a wordpress theme? I also would like
to add google adsense….will i have to do anything special with that?

Ok, so my mom has put all of her faith in me to make her a blog that looks absolutely perfect. Of course I am flattered but I am also scared to death that I am going to disappoint her. I am a first-year graphic design major in college and have been making things and winning contests in art since high school, but I am by no means close to being great yet.

Both of my parents think the world of me and think I’m so talented and I cannot make them think otherwise! I don’t really know how to design a blog though…

Do I just make my own banner in Photoshop or Illustrator and tweak a pre-existing template to make it match together? Or can I reconstruct my own template using CSS/HTML? I have a little experience in the latter – at least enough to know my way around and do basic things.

Also, it is going to be a food blog. My mom’s a really good cook, so she wants to blog about her recipes and experiences in cooking. I am used to making things look really modern and up to date, but she told me that is the exact opposite of what she wants – just to make it harder!

Any advice or help for me? What blog would be the best to do this in? She started it on Blogspot, but I’m wondering if WordPress would be better…design wise at least. Just help me out!

I am fairly proficient in jquery, html, css, as well as dreamweaver, photoshop, and flash. I am trying to design a website that I am able to update with content (articles, posts, news etc.) and I wish to eventually have some sort of a login page (I know a bit of SQL and know people who can help me out here if necessary). I’m just not quite sure where to start for this particular set up. I know I can create posts with something like wordpress, and I’ve designed numerous stand-alone websites in the past. However usually when I want to update something I go back into the html, and re-upload it.

Any ideas? So far I’m thinking wordpress is the best way to go.
Php, it seems, is the way to go

I have Dreamweaver CS4 and wanted to design a website. I had already created the website folder but don’t know what to do next. Which option I have to choose from HTML, PHP, CSS and XML. I really don’t know. Just wanted to create a simple and easy to update website with the help of wordpress. Also please tell me how I can do it with the of wordpress?

So I have no idea how to do it, no experience with HTML, but I really need to use this design, and I am not looking to pay someone. Can someone give me step-by-step instructions?
I used photoshop, using layers, if that makes a difference…

My short term goal = To be able to create nice looking websites & wordpress themes with xhtml, css, and php.

Long term goal = To learn web programming languages so I can build things like facebook apps, iphone apps, adobe air apps etc.

I’ve watched some video lectures and I’m also reading an HTML, CSS book (which is confusing). For those of you who learned on your own, how did you go about doing it? Whats the best way to practice?

and how long do you think it will take me to reach an intermediate level? I have 4 – 6 hours a day to learn right now.

Thanks!

What would you recommend I use as my base; WordPress blog, Joomla or CSS/HTML? I have amateur design experience with all three of these.

Hi! I have a great website design in .psd. It was originally made for wordpress, but the original maker didn’t code it. I have some experience in html/php coding, but I’ve never coded wordpress themes. Is there a way I could code the design to a wordpress theme?

I start to build websites for small business . I am using wordpress.
Is important for me to have a CMS for fast development.
I know HTML , CSS and basic PHP and I can easy learn other languages resources.
