I have tried the WordPress theme / plugin called “ComicPress” but I don’t like it. It’s not very user friendly or intuitive from my perspective. I want something simple and easily customizable. What else is out there? (Note: it doesn’t have to be a wordpress plugin, I’ll take raw PHP files too if I have to)

I’m no web designer so I don’t know html. I’ve heard you can create a professional looking website using Joomla or WordPress. Is that correct? I searched and see that these sites were created using Joomla;

I have a little time on my hand, so how do I go about creating a site like that. Is the designing part free if I do it? Where do I start? and is Joomla or WordPress better?

I know it mght take time, but I’d rather do it myself because I want to learn how to do a little web designing whether it be this way or not.

I did some google research, and I am totally confused, don’t really know what is the best way, there’s just so many tools, that I don’t know where to start, can somebody just throw the tool name (program, ready code, language, anything) or any link, so I know what to look for.
My search mostly returns techniques for blogs (automated, let’s say in WordPress), but how to do it myself for my own site written from scratch with PHP with data dragged out of MySQL database (best if I don’t have to configure the server if possible, for I will not have the access to my host server configuration).

I am a graphic designer and wanted to merge into web design. I know XHTML and CSS and know how to tranfer photoshop designs into dreamweaver as well. I also know a little bit of flash. I have recently heard that many people are using wordpress to create website, I did try to go thru there and its a little overwhelming there are so many tutorials and so many different methods of doing things its just to much. Then there is php….really… more code is that necessary?? I just got lost! I can build a functioning site without php but do you really need to learn to get it to the next level? I wanted a easier way to integrate ecommerce so I wanted to add a shopping cart and pay pal but it uses php, right? So do I have to stick to informational sites. I wish I could have continued school! argh

Is there a way to design a program that could access my news.php file on the web server and change the HTML code (and inject the code at the right place) at a click of the button?
