Hi guys, I need your help.
I want to have my own website.

sign in box (for users to connect on my site.)
flash work
databases
and much more like that….

Which hosting should i purchase :Linux or windows??
how much knowledge should i have about php, sql or like these….??
where should i get theme, or should i use wordpress…??

Please tell me…Thanks in advance
Hey do i really need an internet website. I just wanna put some articles or like that stuff.

I nowhere read that i have to purchase internet lisence.

I am working on a number of websites and have found it EXTREMELY convenient to use Microsoft’s Web Deployment Installer to quick-start some of these sites. Most of them are Drupal and WordPress, and thus do not have any programming that is uniquely “Windows.” The problem is, I have no idea how to access the databases for these sites nor even how to back them up.

I would like to know if I can go ahead and finish building these sites, with data, settings, and all intact, and then back them up and migrate them to a shared linux hosting account that will likely have cPanel.

Any help here will make my world a lot easier.
Wanted to add details that ALL of my sites are installed using MySQL – or so I am led to believe. IIS is completely new to me as I’ve previously been learning using remote hosting; using the Web Deployment Tool is a new thing out of convenience.

While I know there are ways to integrate two user databases together (say pligg and vbulletin), but is it possible to accomplish this across domains?

Here’s the idea. Lets say I was going to create three sites that all had a common theme that made going from one site to another almost unnoticeable. This is done for branding purposes.

1) FishingTips.com – wordpress blog where fishing tips are published

2) FishingSpots.com – pligg style voting site where users can post their favorite fishing spots and others can “digg” them up or down after visiting.

3) FishingTalk.com – a vbulletin forum for fishing enthusiasts to talk about their favorite sport.

All three sites are “mashed” together by tabs at the top of the page that say:
Fishing Tips | Fishing Spots | Fishing Community

Now it would be nice to integrate the forum and voting site’s user databases together so once someone registers for the community, they don’t have to re-register to participate in voting on fishing spots.

If they were hosted on the same site it wouldn’t be an issue, but as the sites are on different domains is it still possible to do?

I’m considering wordpress with wiki plugin, but I’d prefer a single software solution as well. The user comments need to be locked, not editable like wikipedia. I want them to be permanent.

Ideally open source, database, self-hosted, the usual.

Thanks in advance for any help you guys can offer.
So I spent a while researching this answer, and there are three solutions I’ve found:

tikiwiki, bitweaver, and xoware. I’ll try out all three to find the best option.

www.wikimatrix.org was a great resource.

I did some google research, and I am totally confused, don’t really know what is the best way, there’s just so many tools, that I don’t know where to start, can somebody just throw the tool name (program, ready code, language, anything) or any link, so I know what to look for.
My search mostly returns techniques for blogs (automated, let’s say in WordPress), but how to do it myself for my own site written from scratch with PHP with data dragged out of MySQL database (best if I don’t have to configure the server if possible, for I will not have the access to my host server configuration).
Thanks Abimaelrc for the link, however, I know how to conect to db, etc.,just need to know how to change the url address from the one passing variables looking something like: www.domainname.com/search.php? =qid=clientsID&(etc).

to the url to looking like:
www.domainname.com/search/clientsID

I have been trying to create a good standalone blog with its own domain for cheap. I JUST DONT GET IT. I barely have any experience with making websites/blogs or using html or anything. I don’t want to use blogger because I want to have my own blog. And I want to have my own domain. However I would like a WYSIWYG program because I have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA how to use/edit html. I’m willing to pay about $10 a year for the domain and I would like everything else to be free or very cheap if possible. I just want one blog, one simple, non-fancy blog that looks good. I have tried using wordpress and I don’t understand the installation process at all. I know that I need a host and a domain and a database but I just don’t understand any of this. PLEASE HELP ME. thank you

I’m fairly new to web design (about 1.5 years experience) and I’ve been asked to make a recruitment website. The closest thing I’ve done so far is making a wordpress blog. I realise this isn’t close enough!

Can somebody please tell me what things I need to think about in order to set up a recruitment website? ie what kind of software and database and also maybe a short overview of the process it would take to put one together?

I have very basic php skills but am very stubborn and am determined to make this website, so comments about me not bothering or leaving it to a programmer won’t be much help i’m afraid!

Thanks in advance

There are a lot of CMS e.g. wordpress, expression engine, joomlah & the list goes on.
What’s your personal experience & which do you think is the best for a noob. with basic web graphic skills & moderate technical skills to use & set up?

I’m basically trying to teach & help set up a charity website with Ecommerce function, where people can donate and get handicrafts & food & etc. made by the charity organizations in return.
There are list of items in the database where they can purchase e.g. books, paintings, clothes.

Which payment system is good besides paypal?

I moved my wordpress installation to a new server. I updated everything i had to update but i don’t know how to update the database for the media files, like pictures and stuff… when i click on media it gives me some errors and what i can see is that the media gallery is still using the old domain path.

How can i update the path to my media?
all the sql updates are done. The permalinks work just fine…. except for the media gallery… it gives me errors but funny enough the pictures and graphics display perfectly… it’s just when i want to access the media gallery on the admin panel that it gives me errors

I’m on 1&1.com, and I’ve just bought a domain. I’m trying to create a blog, so I’m trying to implement WordPress into my site. According to the tutorial I’m reading, I’m supposed to-
“Click on the icon on the ‘Administration’ tab marked “MySQL Administration, then click on the button labeled ‘New Database’.”

However, under the Administration tab there is no icon that says “MySQL Administration” and I don’t know where to find it. Does anybody know where I can find it?

Sorry if this doesn’t make a lot of sense, I’m terrible with computers, so if you could explain the answer it relatively simple English I would appreciate it a lot. Thank you! :)
