Once you create your WordPress Plugin, in order to get it to work with the WordPress 2.6x feature to automatically add and update Plugins, it must be in the official WordPress Plugin Directory.
To promote your WordPress Plugin, you can also add it to the WordPress Plugins Database and Weblog Tools Collection Plugin and Theme announcements.
