Hey folks, Have a site with several author accounts and need to post something under their name? Have a downtime notice for your site that you’d like to display as being from another account other than your own (like “Site Administrator”)? Or maybe you just like to write under several different aliases? Hate to have to log out and log back in to do all of the above? Than this tutorial is for you! Enjoy, Tad
@HannaPesca Hey there, not exactly. What they’d be able to do is add to a page or even add an additional page (if you give them access to) but be careful when you start adding pages and not posts. They if you don’t keep up with them (on an organization level) they can become a navigational nightmare for your visitors.
Good luck!
On my site I would like a page where selected authors can post articles but I would like to limit what pages they can work on. Is that possible?
@76Cent Absolutely! Not a problem at all! Have a good one. :)
@thaddeushuntdotcom Will do, thanks for your input on my situation.
@76Cent Exactly. The author drop down ONLY recognizes accounts that are create in the WordPress admin panel. There may be other services that hook into that but that doesn’t appear to be the case in your situation.
So, in short, if you want accounts to show up in that drop down and admin has to create the account in the “Users” section of the admin panel.
@thaddeushuntdotcom So use the admin service to create new accounts?
@76Cent Don’t hold me to it but I’m pretty sure that’s whats causing the issue you’re having. They’d have to be straight up wordpress accounts with access only to that site. Mixing authentication services can cause issues with accounts showing up in the dropdown. You can test this theory by adding a few test accounts that only have access to the wp site and nothing else. If they show up, then you most likely have your answer.
@thaddeushuntdotcom I’m an editor on a wordpress site, but the admins are having trouble changing the authors, there are only 4 names with about 12-14 members. The accounts are linked to a vbulletin forum though if that makes any difference
@76Cent That’s a great question! They get added automatically when you add more user accounts to your site. That gets handled in the admin panel under the “Users” section.
The question is, how do you add more users to the drop down menu?
